You download the latest state from a git repositoy.

So you must:

  1. Rename your package gexif-git (i.e. with the -git suffix),
  2. write a proper $pkgver() function that ensures increasing $pkgver with each upstream commit,
  3. add provides=("gexif") or provides=("gexif=${pkgver}") (the latter if pkgver() returns in it's first part something that looks like a release package version),
  4. add conflicts=("gexif"),
  5. add replaces=("gexif<=0.5") (or whatever is the last version of this wrongly named package),
  6. after uploading gexif-git, add a merge request in the package gexif.

Package doesn’t build since po/Makevars.template doesn’t exist. Easy fix:

I'm sorry, I also slightly modified gexif.desktop, but forgot to 'git add' it. Fixed.

Package adopted. I've recently finished some rework on gexif and sent it upstream. Upgrade should come soon.

There has been some work upstream, including fixing the about dialog crash. I don't mind adopting this if there is a new release; in the meantime I have made gexif-cvs: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gexif-cvs/
