We're once again up-to-date. Sorry for the delay.

With this update comes support for Flatpak, Snap, and other containerized Steam installations, which just rolled out tonight, so even more users can benefit without changing their setups to accommodate the fix!

With the latest version, we now have early support for Steam's Proton compatibility layer. It is still recommended, in most circumstances, however to use the native Linux binaries.

In order to use with Proton, follow the steps below.

  1. Download the snapshot.
  2. Run makepkg to get the executable.
  3. Make GModCEFCodecFix-Linux executable with chmod +x /path/to/GModCEFCodecFix-Linux
  4. Clear existing launch options from your Garry's Mod [x86-64] (Proton) installation.
  5. Add PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 %command% to your Garry's Mod [x86-64] launch options.
  6. Run GModCEFCodecFix-Linux. Enjoy!

Please use the Github issues page to report any problems you encounter, and note that our Proton support may not currently work without some issues, such as various font rendering bugs.

Because that binary is three years out of date and hasn't been updated nor maintained. I've provided a more or less officially managed repository here in its stead; one that I'll try not to let fall years out of date. I am not super familiar with the workings or etiquette of the AUR, but I am an active part of the team which releases, updates, and maintains this software.

Pretty much this: This copy is actively updated to some degree and the other has been stale for years now. Feel free to try to use the other if you wish, though.

Edit: This one also uses the correct naming conventions we use in the official release, which is fairly important for search engines.

Why was this package published to the AUR when https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gmod-cef-codec-fix-bin exists?
