Orphaning, I want to get rid of gnome-vfs (and yes, it is needed).

A dependency on gnome-vfs should be included. otherwise gnome-commander will not run with the package default build settings from my experience . .

Even after changing the command to start the terminal on "konsole", it tries to start gnome-terminal when the "Execute" menu is selected in the context.

As a workaround, I uploaded itstool-legacy to AUR. Try that.

I can now confirm your problem, same here.

Builds fine here, what should I do?

the system freeze is due to oom: Out of memory: Kill process 13910 (itstool) score 158 or sacrifice child

freezes the system upon makepkg (at itstool) if test -f "${mo}"; then mo="../${mo}"; else mo="/usr/src/tmp/gnome-commander/src/gnome-commander-1.8.0/doc/${mo}"; fi; \ (cd "el/" && itstool -m "${mo}" ${d}/C/index.docbook ${d}/C/legal.xml ${d}/C/releases.xml) && \ touch "el/el.stamp"
