@TingPing: I'm sold! I'll happily switch away from autotools.

TingPing commented on 2017-06-14 02:44

btw see also `gnome-mpv-git` which uses meson already.

Well Meson is just much faster and more simple. For some numbers gnome-mpv build time: Meson - 1 second, AutoTools (with ./autogen.sh) - 12 seconds.

As for preferred build tool, gnome-mpv is actually a very small codebase and I personally maintain the Meson build files. I would not expect many issues and I will be responsive in fixing them.

TingPing: I considered moving to meson but I abstained; the Github page made it sound like Meson was not the preferred build tool for now.

As I believe you're involved with upstream, would there be a benefit to switching to Meson right now?

I'll remove the intltool dep, thanks for that.

intltool can be dropped as a build dep. Also might be worth moving to Meson now (need this patch though: https://github.com/gnome-mpv/gnome-mpv/commit/e5ca712d343956666fa886e244d081d5febe6649.patch)

@bsdson: It looks like you don't have binutils installed on your system. Do you have all the necessary base-devel packages installed?

[SOLVED]
thanks @ainola!
it works after installing binutils.

@ainola: No I got it working, it was my mistake, I am sorry. The package installed mpv media player along with gnome-mpv player. The gnome-mpv player works just fine but the other one is borderless.

@nim: I sense a larger issue with your installation. If you're certain that this is an issue with the program, please do the following and post the results in an upstream bug report:

Put --msg-level=all=debug in Extra MPV Options in the preferences dialog. Run G_MESSAGES_DEBUG=all gnome-mpv in the terminal, play a video, then copy/paste the output to a bug report along with version/system information.

I installed mpv and gnome-mpv but when I launch it there is no menu bar or play/pause and volume buttons. I have kill it every time to close it. It works just fine otherwise.

Edit: It is working fine, it was just my mistake :). Thanks.
