Running 'configure' & 'make' would create and change some files in the source code, making it more complicated to update & rebuild this package, as the source code has changes (it would fail to update). This double-clone was the way found to download the source and make a copy and build inside the copy, preventing changes in the original. (its template is in archlinux's package 'abs') Latest version of pacman, version 4.1, does this task automatically. ASAP I will update the PKGBUILD according to the wiki [1] and it will be much more clean. [1] https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VCS_PKGBUILD_Guidelines

Probably a silly question, but here I go: why the second clone?
