Thanks, that was fast! :-)

Sorry about the missing docs directory. It has been fixed in 0.9.6-2.

There is an error during packaging:

migueldvb: Excellent, it builds successfully now. Thank you!

dwysocki: I have included a dependency on an older version of the plplot library that fixes this problem.

dwysocki commented on 2015-08-26 22:02

The build is still failing for me, due to the issue with plplot.

Looking at some of the comments here, it seems there's a patch. Was that incorporated into the package already, or do I need to do something for that?

The exact error is:

-- Could NOT find PLPLOT (missing: PLPLOT_LIBRARIES)
CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:363 (message):
plplot library is required but was not found.

Use -DPLPLOTDIR=DIR to specify the plplot directory tree.

Thanks for the report of netcdf cxx legacy library missing package. This release of gdl can be build with netcdf-cxx

dwysocki commented on 2015-08-26 01:37

Trying to install gives me the error

Dependency `netcdf-cxx-legacy' of `gnudatalanguage' does not exist.

It seems the `netcdf-cxx-legacy' AUR package has been deleted.

Styx85 commented on 2015-05-29 08:17

There is a patch floating around ironing out the incompatibility with plplot 5.11

https://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/dev-lang/gdl/files/0.9.5-plplot.patch?logsort=rev&view=log&sortby=log&pathrev=HEAD

ckoresko commented on 2015-04-27 00:52

After building and installing the current plplot, this package built and installed cleanly.

Styx85 commented on 2015-03-17 17:42

Recently a build script was published on the GDL Mailing-List, maybe it helps with using gnudatalanguage-cvs.

A quick heads up on GDL /plplot issues.

This release of gdl will not build agains plplot-git as the library names have changed (I have entered a bug report upstream as a new plplot release is expected soon). I believe that this is at the root of most of ckoresko's issues.

At present it won't help to use gnudatalanguage-cvs (hope that will change soon).

ckoresko commented on 2015-02-21 06:01

Building gnudatalanguage is currently a tricky. Here's how to do it (as of today, as best I can remember). Hope this is useful to somebody.

The pslib package is a dependency for gnudatalanguage. It built cleanly for me, but wouldn't install -- it complained that it couldn't satisfy a dependency for perlxml. This package appears not to exist in the repos. I edited the PKGBUILD and made pslib depend on 'perl-xml-libxml' and 'libxml-perl' instead. Not sure if that's right, but it got pslib installed.

The plplot package won't build because of an upstream issue that trips up cmake. plplot-git may work. Instead of using it directly, I extracted the file cmake/modules/pkg-config.cmake from it and put that in place of the one in the regular plplot 5.10.0 tarball (expand the tarball, replace the file, re-create the tarball). Then I used 'md5sum' to get the md5 and put that in place of the existing one in the PKGBUILD file. With that, a 'make -s' should successfully build plplot.

Incidentally, plplot has an issue with Python: it finds python3 instead of python2.7, and its test for numpy isn't compatible with python3, so Python support gets disabled. I haven't found a way to resolve that, but it's probably an upstream issue and it doesn't affect gnudatalanguage as far as I can tell.

And the old issue that requires changing plplot_config.h to config.h in /usr/include/plplot/plConfig.h (at line 48 IIRC) before building gnudatalanguage still applies.

The gnudatalanguage package fails to find the installed plplot and prints a suggestion to set -DPLPLOTDIR=DIR, which is insufficient to cure the issue. The solution is to add the following to the cmake options in the PKGBUILD:
-DPLPLOTDIR=/usr/include -DPLPLOTCXX_LIBRARY=/usr/lib/libplplotcxxd.so -DPLPLOT_LIBRARY=/usr/lib/libplplotd.so \

Also, it was necessary to change plstream::wid to plstream::width in gdlgstream.cpp line 55 (this file is in gdl-0.9.5.tar.gz. This means expanding the tarball, editing that file, recreating the tarball, running md5sum against it, and updating the md5 value in the gnudatalanguage PKGBUILD to agree with it.

At this point, doing 'make -s' in the gnudatalanguage directory should work. Once built, the package installs cleanly and the program appears to run fine.

During the build I got a warning that my PLplot was too old and that some functionality would be disabled. I ignored that. Probably it's seeing 5.10 as 5.1 or something like that.

McNoggins commented on 2015-02-16 14:46

An optional dependency could be added for extra/graphicsmagick

archlenovo commented on 2014-10-18 16:33

@James-T: Thank you for updating, it's working good. I think it was a problem with plplot itself. Since HAVE_CONFIG_H has been changed to PLPLOT_HAVE_CONFIG_H in plConfig.h, the problem is solved.

James-T commented on 2014-10-18 14:11

Updated to 0.9.5 -- please note plplot needs to be updated first.

James-T commented on 2014-10-17 20:00

To update a bit further: the

#include <plplot_config.h>

line should be excluded, other than when building plplot itself. gnudatalanguage is propagating HAVE_CONFIG_H, to the plplot include files with the result that the file is included when nothing should be included.

I'm not quote sure which upstream is at fault here -- I've sent a message to plplot devel to see if the folks there have any clues for a proper fix.

James-T commented on 2014-10-17 19:44

@archlenovo: Do you know if the plplot change is compatible with other plplot applications? If so it should be (a) addressed in the plplot package and (b) passed to upstream for rectification in the next release.

Version 0.9.5 is out, is it possible to upgrade please?

Currently, I can't compile this version because plplot_config.h is missing.
Apparently, some bug reports already exist about this problem:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=761176

I also had issues with CMake not finding PYTHON_LIBRARIES and PYTHON_INCLUDE_DIRS. I had to insert these lines in the PKGBUILD:
-DPYTHON_INCLUDE_DIR=/usr/include/python2.7 \
-DPYTHON_LIBRARY=/usr/lib/python2.7/config/libpython2.7.so \

Finally, there is an undeclared dependency towards eigen3:
https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/any/eigen/

The new version 0.9.5 is available. Regards :-)

James-T commented on 2013-12-29 10:56

Please note that this package still does not build. This is because the current release of gnudatalanguage is incompatible with the current release of plplot.

Until the next gnudatalanguage release, I recommend using the gnudatalanguage-cvs package instead.

James-T commented on 2013-10-30 10:53

The latest version of plplot (5.9.10) replaces plwid with plwidth and supports floating point line widths. Other routines with linewidth arguments also change arguments. As a result the package will no longer build. Probably *mainly* an issue for upstream, but I've flagged the package as out of date as a reminder/warning.

James-T commented on 2013-10-30 10:48

plplot 5.9.10 (the version now in AUR) has floating-point line widths, and plwid (or equivalent) becomes plwidth.

Hello.
Just like it happened to srikanthbojja, my GDL installations fails with an error related to imagemagick:

checking for Magick++-config... no
configure: error: ImageMagick is required but was not found (Magick++-config program not found)
Use --with-Magick=DIR to specify the ImageMagick directory tree
Use --with-Magick=no to not use it

(suitable Debian/Ubuntu package: libmagick++-dev)
(suitable Fedora package: ImageMagick-c++-devel)

==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build().
Aborting...

I edited the PKGBUILD when packer asked and added the --with-Magic=DIR (where dir is /usr/bin)...it didn't work. However, it seems that in fact it needs the ImageMagick-c++-devel package (which isn't in AUR).

srikanthbojja commented on 2013-05-06 10:46

gnudatalanguage dependencies:
- python2 (already installed)
- python2-numpy (already installed)
- plplot>=5.9.9 (already installed)
- gsl (already installed)
- imagemagick (already installed)
- readline (already installed)
- hdf5 (already installed)
- netcdf (already installed)
- netcdf-cxx-legacy (already installed)
- wxgtk (already installed)
- fftw (already installed)
- udunits (already installed)
- pslib (already installed)
- grib_api (already installed)

dependency check says ImageMagick installed but no idea why this error is poping up

Error! ImageMagick version 5.5.7 or later is required but was not found

srikanthbojja commented on 2013-04-24 13:05

@James-T: Thanks a ton.

fixed python-numarray issue..

now cannot install udunits (one of the dependencies)...can i also skip this??

James-T commented on 2013-04-24 11:21

python-numarray is now part of python-numpy, so just delete python-numarray from the PKGBUILD

James-T commented on 2013-04-24 11:20

@srikanthbojja

python-numarray has now been subsumed into python-numpy, so until the maintainer updates the PKGBUILD, edit PKGBUILD and simply remove python-numpy.

srikanthbojja commented on 2013-04-24 09:43

any idea how to fix this?

For a long-term solution the PKGBUILD should be updated to use cmake.
Also, python-numarray no longer exists (it is now part of python-numpy) so the makedepend should go, also ImageMagick is not correctly found even if installed (I don't know why, I just disabled it for the time being).

There is an unnecessary duplication of the routines library, they are ending up in both the default /usr/share/gnudatalanguage/lib and also in /usr/lib/gdl.

I'd suggest removing the /usr/lib/gdl stuff altogether unless there is some other very good reason to have it.

following error while installing..

aclocal: warning: autoconf input should be named 'configure.ac', not 'configure.in'
configure.in:35: error: 'AM_CONFIG_HEADER': this macro is obsolete.
You should use the 'AC_CONFIG_HEADERS' macro instead.
/usr/share/aclocal-1.13/obsolete-err.m4:12: AM_CONFIG_HEADER is expanded from...
configure.in:35: the top level
autom4te: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 1
aclocal: error: echo failed with exit status: 1

any idea what this is about??

Build failed:

Error! pslib is required but it was not found
Use --with-pslib=DIR to specify the pslib directory tree
Use --with-pslib=no to not use it
Check the README or use configure --help for other libraries needed
(--with-xxxdir = obligatory, --with-xxx = optional (--with-xxx=no to disable))

I'm not sure why since I have pslib installed

Fixed. Now gnudatalanguage also depends on netcdf-cxx-legacy bindings, these are different from netcdf-cxx available on extra repository.

srikanthbojja commented on 2012-07-23 12:59

please fix the dependencies issue.

This problem was fixed in the CVS version of GDL on Feb 11 2010.
(see: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=2949808&group_id=97659&atid=618683)

The change is going to be included in the new release (comming soon).

Sylwester.
