I was using pikaur -Syu actually. Strange that it didn't work out... In any case - thank you for your help!

So the PKGBUILD already includes gnustep-gui as a dependency with a version requirement. Are you installing with makepkg? You might want to consider installing an AUR helper that can pull and install dependencies. I've had luck using yay but anything listed as having a reliable solver should work. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AUR_helpers They will handle all of the dependencies required to build your target package from the AUR.

@Beebo: yes, I do, but gnustep-gui is the second. Should I try to upgrade gnustep-gui first? UPD: I found the issue: gnustep-gui was built, but wasn't installed. After I installed it - build&install for gnustep-back succeeded! Should gnustep-back depend on gnustep-gui? Probably, with version requirement?

If upgrading, did you also update the gnustep-gui dependency? I've gone ahead and updated the PKGBUILD to require the updated gnustep-gui that's required. If you build again, your AUR helper should now automatically update in the correct order. Let me know if you still run into any issues.

@Beebo: for me build for version 0.28.0-1 fails with this error: XGServerEvent.m: In function ‘-[XGServer(EventOps) processEvent:]’: XGServerEvent.m:734:52: error: ‘GSAppKitAppHide’ undeclared (first use in this function) 734 | subtype: GSAppKitAppHide | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ XGServerEvent.m:734:52: note: each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each function it appears in
