Figured it out. It's a recent bug in makepkg, not in the PKGBUILD itself. See https://gitlab.archlinux.org/pacman/pacman/-/issues/107. Should be fixed soon. Current workaround is to add
!debug
to the options. Sooptions=(!strip !debug)

Running the application leads to the error: "Cannot mount AppImage, please check your FUSE setup.". The appimage in /usr/bin is only 193KB. Something seems to go wrong when moving the file to /usr/bin, but I can't pinpoint the issue in the PKGBUILD. Any ideas? Downloading and running the appimage manually doesn't lead to any issues.
