Some time ago after an update, my Macbook Pro 5,3 Mid 2009 with two nvidia cards only booted to blackscreen using the proprietary nvidia drivers. The nouvaeu drivers worked (if you forget about the heat). Running this program activating the dedicated gpu solved this problem and now it runs with the nvidia drivers again.
