Info:
Trying to get an authorative answer for the $epoch-question:

Since I also maintain packages, I am generally interested in the outcome, to know what I need to (or have to refrain from) do on my own AUR packages.

The issue came up on your package, @xiota, but is of general interest to me.

Edit: Seems the wiki has been updated. And @muflone writes, who seems to be somehow authorative:

This is clear for anyone, its use covers exactly the cases where the upstream version numbering changes or when the downstream version number change would make the newer package with a version number previous than the previous. For git packages the pkgver is set by downstream in the PKGBUILD so it applies also to the previous condition.

There's not any exception for VCS packages (including -git of course), so there's no reason for not applying the change (setting the epoch) when the version numbering change, regardless being a VCS package or not.

Regards!

New version can't be older than the old version. Simple, obvious, and irrefutable.

epoch is pointless on AUR because it is build on demand. AUR helpers will still notify of version change and give option to "downgrade". Users who refuse to do so may keep the old build. It is ultimately their choice what to install on their own machines.

@xiota has adopted the package and fixed it, thanks!

An increment of $epoch is still needed.

↗ Here is a PKGBUILD which received rework and should fix the outstanding issues.

Are libuhd and libunwind really needed as dependencies?:

gr-lora_sdr-git W: Dependency included, but may not be needed ('libuhd')
gr-lora_sdr-git W: Dependency included, but may not be needed ('libunwind')

pybind11 is needed as make dependency.
