After patching the PKGBUILD with

mkdir $pkgdir/usr/bin
ln -sf /usr/bin/groupme /opt/groupme/GroupMe
ln -sf /opt/groupme/GroupMe "$pkgdir/usr/bin/groupme"

groupme fails to start due to out of date dependencies required by groupme itself.

(groupme:13278): Pango-ERROR **: 17:36:47.414: Harfbuzz version too old (1.2.7)

This should have gconf as a dependency. It also needs something in /usr/bin, whether that's a symlink to /opt/groupme/GroupMe or a setup script is up to you.
