Sorry about that. I messed up the provides and the gtk2 one went missing. Should be OK now.

gtk2-patched-filechooser-icon-view (2.24.33-3) breaks the 'gtk2' dependency required by freefilesync-bin

and a lot of other packages

Okay, I see the issue now. The previous version of gtk2 (2.24.32) that was released way back in January did not have support for automake 1.16. Automake updated roughly a month ago, and I just never noticed there was an issue with the versions. My intention is to follow Arch upstream releases, but there's no point in forcing users to downgrade/install alternate versions of automake just to have this compile. Therefore, I've just updated this to the current latest gtk2 commit which does have automake 1.16 support so there's no need to have to mess with outdated build tools.

had to install automake-1.14 for it to build, this wasn't a build dep it pulled in automatically.

vita_cell, please be kind enough to delete your 2018-02-21 16:50 comment, it does not help anyone with anything

Have you tested xfce with only gtk2-patched-filechooser-icon-view installed (no glib2-patched-thumbnailer)? Does it work for you?

My goal is not use crappy shit like GTK3 or GNOME Giant full screen-wasting header bars (not everybody has 8k and touch screen). I really hate all this stuff. I don't care if someone love all that, but please make for people like me an option to not use all that stuff.

Always in Firefox if I want just to save an image, the save windows appers with huge big/giant icons on path bar.

In Engrampa (I also tryed gtk2 version), tool icons at the top are fkng bigs, and these just waste you window and screen.

I just trying to keep my system out of bloatware, gtk3, and GNOME crap. (GNOME was great before version 3). The worst thing is GNOME header bars, I really hate them. Why they don't want to keep it simple? Why they infect any program with their header bars?

Also I had a great "pamac-aur" version installed (maybe 3 or 4), this one had a normal bar (one default with your window manager), and got updated it and now I have the horror GNOME header bar, corrupting my theme. Now I can not find a package of pamac 3 version. And here no instructions to how compile version 3.

Look at this crap: https://imgur.com/a/sq5jn https://imgur.com/a/J6bjp

Thanks you anyway!!

Thank you for reporting the bug. I was able to reproduce your issue pretty easily and I have a guess at what it is. The problem definitely lies with glib2-patched-thumbnailer and xfdesktop. Briefly looking at xfdesktop, it has various functions to generate thumbnails, and I suspect somewhere in there it conflicts with the patched glib2 (which also has code to generate thumbnails). xfdesktop not running properly leads to the other issues like desktop backgrounds and icons being broken. I don't use xfce, so there may have been other things I missed. When I have more time, I'll try to look more into detail and see if there's a fairly simple way to mitigate this. It's odd that the previous maintainer apparently didn't have a problem with xfce (someone reported the same thing a few years ago obviously). Perhaps something changed.

For now, the best approach is to make glib2-patched-thumbnailer an optional dependency (which it really should have been from the beginning). The only thing the glib2 patch does is add thumbnail generation in the upload dialog. So if you download an image while browsing and then later open the dialog to upload it somewhere, the dialog will generate the thumbnail for you right there. The actual icon view is totally handled by the gtk2/3-patched-filechooser-icon-view packages, so it's not actually necessary to have glib2-patched-thumbnailer installed. The only caveat is that you'll have to generate thumbnails by opening your file manager (thunar, pcmanfm, etc.) and navigating to the directory. But as long as you have thumbnails stored in your .cache directory, the upload dialog will use them without a problem. It just can't make new ones without the glib2 patch. It may be a tad annoying, but I'm sure we can agree it's much better than the default gtk dialogs.

I did some brief testing with stock glib2 and the gtk2/3-patched-filechooser-icon-view packages on xfce and everything seemed fine (desktop, icons, etc. all worked) which makes sense. Those patches only touch the upload dialog. It's also quite possible that other desktop environments may have similar issues with glib2-patched-thumbnailer. So for those of you who still want an icon view but may have had some strange issues (likely caused by glib2-patched-thumbnailer which messes with more critical functions than the gtk2/3 patches do), try it out again without the glib2-patch and let me know if you run into any issues.

Had to remove "glib2-patched-thumbnailer" and "gtk2-patched-filechooser-icon-view", some of them, or both, makes my desktop unstable, so when I try to right-click on desktop and select desktop settings, desktop setting window hangs, and if I reboot after install both packages, I just have no desktop or wallpaper. And can not do any click on desktop. I am using XFCE4.

Note that the second release of 2.24.32 may require some manual intervention. You may get a message/warning about an untracked file. This is due to the patch being moved into the package instead of constantly being downloaded from an external source. To fix this, simply go into the cache directory of your AUR helper, navigate to gtk2-patched-filechooser-icon-view, and then remove the gtk2-filechooser-icon-view.patch file. Build it again and it should work just fine. Alternatively, you may use your AUR helper to clear package cache if you are lazy.
