The recent update is regarding the PKGBUILD, I've found a little misconception in the installation directory.

Version 3.36.0-3 gives me the following error:

$ makepkg

install -m0644 -D session/i3-gnome-xsession.desktop //usr/share/xsessions/i3-gnome.desktop
install: cannot remove '//usr/share/xsessions/i3-gnome.desktop': Permission denied

As you might notice, the intention to update i3-gnome to 3.36.0 is to focus all the issues to the related version of GNOME, please, report your issues on the github repository.

@dobrado 3.34.1 is released 5 hours ago, a bit later than the AUR version bump. Now it builds just fine.

dobrado commented on 2019-10-22 02:54 (UTC)

Hi, @51v4n ! The download source are broken? The last version in git are 3.34.0, not 3.34.1

gccstr commented on 2019-10-22 00:14 (UTC)

@yochananmarqos already done! thanks! didn't notice that.

yochananmarqos commented on 2019-10-19 15:35 (UTC)

gnome-session and gnome-settings-daemon should be added to dependencies and gdm should be added to optional dependencies. gnome-flashback should at least be added to optional dependencies.

@Hi-Angel, Basically by 'GNOME Session integration' stands for makes available a session option for GNOME + i3 and enables GNOME Keyring and other GNOME processes to work out-of-the-box.

Hi-Angel commented on 2018-05-26 07:51 (UTC)

I assume this is a known bug, but this just runs i3, with no gnome in sight.

lol yeah, this package just runs different Gnome services (I dunno what kind of services) — but not Gnome with its panel, applets, and such. it is already kind of faq, I wonder if it's worth putting into description.

rawkode commented on 2018-03-31 06:33 (UTC)

Ack, i3-gnome has worked without GDM until this release. GDM has too many bluetooth related bugs to switch back over. Thanks anyway

gccstr commented on 2018-03-30 21:17 (UTC)

@rawkode, this catch my attention:

/etc/lightdm/Xsession: ...

it seems that you don't have GDM installed, that's why you're getting the error, GDM helps to load all the necessary components that i3-gnome will use.

package: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?name=gdm

rawkode commented on 2018-03-30 11:36 (UTC)

Hi @51v4n,

I reinstalled i3-gnome and now I get:

/etc/lightdm/Xsession: line 76: exec: gnome-session --session=i3-gnome: not found
Gdk-Message: 12:35:53.428: light-locker: Fatal IO error 11 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server :0.

gccstr commented on 2018-03-29 18:16 (UTC)

@rawkode, Can you give more information about?

Can't reproduce the issue.

Before anything you must have the latest version of GNOME.

rawkode commented on 2018-03-29 07:22 (UTC)

Fails to start with error: /bin/sh: /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-xsettings: No such file or directory

Looks like it should be /usr/lib/gsd-xsettings

tasankovasara commented on 2018-03-25 17:06 (UTC)

Went for a walk, came back, it's fixed. Blessed be, 51v4n <3

tasankovasara commented on 2018-03-25 15:05 (UTC)

Gnome went 3.28, and guess what, i3 with Gnome works no more. Does anybody have a quick fix (pliize) ?

gccstr commented on 2017-10-11 02:12 (UTC)

i think you should add this to your `~/.config/i3/config`: exec --no-startup-id /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-xsettings

killajoe commented on 2017-10-10 10:13 (UTC)

thanks 51v4n ! but i do get a full configurated gnome installtion, bluetooth is working and themes are set. Before i can set everything also under i3-gnome, now i get only networkmanager-tray-icon working the rest is not aviable or have no effect under i3-gnome session.

gccstr commented on 2017-10-08 00:58 (UTC)

make sure if you have installed bluez: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?name=bluez bluez-utils: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?name=bluez-utils and get up and running those units through systemctl: sudo systemctl enable bluez.service && sudo systemctl start bluez.service gnome-bluetooth as well: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/gnome-bluetooth/ for appereance make sure to make your customizations under GNOME DE, because it's more about the DE than the Window Manager. Another Utility to consider it's gtk-chtheme: http://plasmasturm.org/code/gtk-chtheme/

killajoe commented on 2017-10-07 23:27 (UTC)

For me, now i can login to i3-gnome session but appereance and devices like bluetooth is not aviable over gnome-tweak-tool or gnome-control-center.

gccstr commented on 2017-10-07 18:36 (UTC)

Fixed!, now works again, thanks to @killajoe to let us know about the issue and @Snowmobil for his suggestion on GitHub. Now it should work for everyone.

gccstr commented on 2017-10-06 22:27 (UTC)

@killajoe, thanks for let me know, i'll flag this package out of date just to notify. On it.

killajoe commented on 2017-10-06 14:41 (UTC)

Seems to not work anymore after the update today -with GDM or lightdm -try to login the session brings you right back to the DM

gccstr commented on 2017-09-17 01:08 (UTC)

Update: just added the epoch as suggested by @ItachiSan, thanks for the suggestions!

gccstr commented on 2017-09-13 02:50 (UTC)

@ItachiSan ok, got it, thanks!, currently on it, i'm doing other tasks, be patient.

ItachiSan commented on 2017-09-11 12:01 (UTC)

I think you might add the epoch, as the previous version was 5.1 and now it is 2.1.

gccstr commented on 2017-09-08 22:11 (UTC)

hello @Hi-Angel Sorry for the misconceptions, the deal with i3-gnome is that you're still using GNOME as a 'backend thing', you don't get the panels and visual stuff from GNOME but you're using GNOME stuff like the audio manager in this case if you plug-in your headphones you don't have to load an external app for manage that stuff, also you're using way lot better GTK+ integration so you don't have to do hardconfigs to maintain a good looking feel for most of the software that uses GTK (firefox and so on), and in addition you're using the i3 that you know as a window manager instead of the window manager of GNOME (metacity {wayland} or whatever GNOME uses now). hope this help you. Cheers!

Hi-Angel commented on 2017-09-07 16:24 (UTC)

I don't quite understand from descriptions here or in README: should it have Gnome's panel with all its applets, or no? Because for me it doesn't, it looks completely like a usual i3 session, except that now I have a bunch of gnome* processes in RAM.

gccstr commented on 2017-08-08 16:11 (UTC)

@epidings totally forgotten, updated now!, thanks.

epidings commented on 2017-08-08 06:37 (UTC)

Thanks for the update! I guess, this line in PKGBUILD should be: source=(i3-gnome-2.1.zip::https://github.com/lvillani/i3-gnome/archive/2.1.zip)

gccstr commented on 2017-07-25 11:06 (UTC) (edited on 2017-07-29 00:52 (UTC) by gccstr)

Taking care of this package, suggestions are welcome as well to the repo on github[1] [1] https://github.com/lvillani/i3-gnome Cheers!

For gnome-settings-daemon 3.24 issue, replace /usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/i3-gnome.session with following should work. # -*- mode: conf -*- [GNOME Session] Name=i3-gnome RequiredComponents=org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.A11yKeyboard;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.A11ySettings;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Clipboard;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Color;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Datetime;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Housekeeping;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Keyboard;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.MediaKeys;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Mouse;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Orientation;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Power;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.PrintNotifications;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Rfkill;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.ScreensaverProxy;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Sharing;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Smartcard;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Sound;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.Wacom;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XRANDR;org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XSettings;i3-gnome; See https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/53800

Mey by just sending the 'Logout' message should be fine

Pinky commented on 2016-11-22 00:36 (UTC)

solved by: cat /usr/bin/i3-gnome #!/bin/sh # Register with gnome-session so that it does not kill the whole session thinking it is dead. test -n "$DESKTOP_AUTOSTART_ID" && { dbus-send --print-reply --session --dest=org.gnome.SessionManager "/org/gnome/SessionManager" org.gnome.SessionManager.RegisterClient "string:i3-gnome" "string:$DESKTOP_AUTOSTART_ID" } i3 test -n "$DESKTOP_AUTOSTART_ID" && { dbus-send --print-reply --session --dest=org.gnome.SessionManager "/org/gnome/SessionManager" org.gnome.SessionManager.Logout "uint32:1" }

sebstar commented on 2016-04-23 13:22 (UTC)

Hey Marex, thanks for the package! Do you mind merging upstream/master in your github repo?

MCSH commented on 2016-03-29 19:03 (UTC)

This package requires i3 as dependencies, be sure to install before using or you will face problems.

Tbsc commented on 2016-03-23 18:53 (UTC)

@denspirit: It should, as it runs in i3. I'm guessing he hasn't set up dependencies for it.

jon.reeve commented on 2015-11-21 21:02 (UTC)

This appears to work only halfway--GTK themes seem to be set OK, but then brightness and volume keys don't work as expected. Any ideas about what might be happening here?

denspirit commented on 2015-08-31 20:59 (UTC)

Does this package depend on i3-wm present?
