It seems that a new version was released a while ago, though it may not be any new changes but it would be great if you can upgrade the package to version 1.0

it looks like it has been fixed in june by upstream https://bugs.launchpad.net/indicator-stickynotes/+bug/1633787

Tested on a Debian VM and problem persists. Assuming upstream's fault.

Yeah I've noticed that myself. For me they are stuck black, I think it just uses the gtk+ theme colour.
It was already like this when I adopted the package so i didn't think much of it. This package sources a deb, so I'll try the deb on a Debian VM and see if it works as intended there. Try figure out if it's an upstream problem.

Sticky notes are white regardless of color settings.
