I need more information, as the exact PKGBUILD in the AUR builds and runs well for me. Have you tried starting it as root? Have you tried directly running instantbird-bin? What version of xulrunner? 32 or 64 bit?

The icon isn't set for instantbird in the system. (For instance, with xfce, if we got a launcher for Instantbird then we can't select an icon since if there's one it's not in a standard directory…)

By the way, after installation there's no menu entry for instant bird which is a bit annoying because we need to launch it from a command line…

You can download language packs at addons.instantbird.org. If you look for the two "locale" related sed lines, you can try taking them out of the PKGBUILD. But from what I can tell, they refer to directories that don't exist.
