A few notes for the users who are installing this app:

  • This application can only be used with the subscription-based licensing which is marketed as For server. You can't use your Insync "Desktop" lifetime license.
    There's 50% coupon code getheadless50. edit: code status: active
  • By default analytics in enabled. You can disable it by running $ insync-headless config allow_analytics False.
  • The package doesn't conflict anymore with the desktop Insync package, but because the Unix socket filename is the same for both daemons there is a runtime conflict, so you can't have both running at the same time.
  • The Debian package comes with a cron dependency which is used to start the app instead of the init system. It looks like we can safely ignore this dependency due to the fact the app is not set to run on startup, you can run $ insync-headless config run_on_startup to confirm this.
    Note that this AUR package is already shipping systemd services.

Hints for the initial settings:

  • Start the daemon: $ insync-headless start or $ systemctl --user start insync-headless.service.
  • Print your machine ID: $ insync-headless subscription show
  • Assign a license to the machine ID via Insync dashboard (website)
  • Generate an auth token for a cloud account: Google Drive, OneDrive.
  • Add a cloud storage account, For Google Drive: $ insync-headless account add --auth-code [auth_token] --cloud gd --path ~/public/google-drive. For OneDrive use --cloud od, for more details run $ insync-headless account add --help.
  • Select folders to sync as by default existing folders might not be downloaded: $ insync-headless selective-sync. Tip: the TUI has VIM key mapping.

p.s. I'm not sure for how long I'll be able to maintain this package or maybe I should say test new releases properly as I'm planning to switch to a Debian-based Podman container. Hit me up if you thinkg you'll gonna use this package for a long period and don't mind maintaining it.

I don't have a server license anymore, and if I'll ever get one again, then I likely run this in a Debian container.
I disowned the package, feel free to adopt.

With the 3.0.7.10610 release we can drop the package conflict with insync but there's still a runtime conflict due to the Unix socket filename, so you can't have both daemons running at the same time.

@tinywrkb i've updated the description of the package. Also i've disowned myself from the package since i finally don't use it.

Pre Insync 3 version had a CLI only daemon included. You might want to make it clear that this Insync edition is not covered by the lifetime license and needs the annual subscription instead by updating the description to fit the Insync store's "For Server" marketing.
Maybe also use this chance to make the pkgdesc less descriptive so change it to something like Google Drive and OneDrive headless client for servers, we already know it's running on Linux and it's also not official as it's not called google-drive.
