@Dominik You can always use chown or chmod to make it accessible to your user

On a fresh arch install i got another error. Its new to me that hostname is in PATH

vncserver: couldn't find "hostname" on your PATH.

Need to add perl-datetime to dependencies to resolve "Can't locate DateTime.pm" error on start of vncserver.

It would be good to add a conflict with other vncserver, for example, turbovnc

After installing the package and following your instructions below to create the certificate and key, I started the server with vncserver. The following message is shown:

/etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key: certificate isn't readable. Make the certificate readable by adding your user to group "root": 'addgroup $USER root'

For security reasons I don't want to add my user to the root group!

Depending on the linux distribution the user has to be added to a special group to grant access to the certificate.

Debian/Ubuntu/Kali

# Add your user to the ssl-cert group sudo addgroup $USER ssl-cert

Oracle/CentOS

# Add your user to the kasmvnc-cert group sudo usermod -a -G kasmvnc-cert $USER

Could you please let me know what is required under Arch Linux?

cd /etc/ssl

sudo openssl genpkey -algorithm RSA -out private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key

sudo openssl req -new -key private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key -out certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.csr

sudo openssl x509 -req -days 365 -in certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.csr -signkey private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key -out certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem

sudo chmod 600 private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key

sudo chmod 644 certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem

I'm getting this

/etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem: certificate file doesn't exist or isn't a file

/etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key: certificate file doesn't exist or isn't a file

When executing "vncserver". How to fix it? And you need to add the user to the ssl group... some kind of instructions would be very appreciated, i'm really lost with this
