Just tried this and it works amazingly but there's a couple of things I found. 1) I wasn't able to build the kikbd module. It said it couldn't find widgets.moc which is very strange as qt1 is definitely providing it. So I had to disable compilation of that module: https://pastebin.com/kYcinvMH 2) I had to reorder startkde to get this to not crash on startup. Starting kwm last makes the entire desktop crash, I don't know why. I made it start before krootwm and made the session hang on kbgndwm instead. This got it to startup successfully but breaks the logout button which seems to just rely on killing kwm to end the session. Can anyone else confirm these issues?

Update: Now you need to create /opt/kde1/share/apps/kdisknav if you don't, it won't start. I tested it in a VM this morning and if you start kwm first then startkde you see the error: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/105936874/IMG_20161116_101802810.jpg

I just tried a new installation of KDE1 in a virtual machine and it started fine... I also added a few more kde1 packages if you want more apps :)

It appears the problem is /opt/kde1/share/kdisknav is not created. Create it and everything starts fine.

I followed the instructions on the gist and the desktop starts and crashes. It only works if I start kwm and then startkde

I am terribly sorry, I just updated the script. It should be "exec /opt/kde1/bin/startkde"

In the gist you're trying to exec a directory. Which of the files within to I need to start?
