For someone who is more capable than at packaging on AUR than me ....

I have successfully installed Kobo Desktop 4.12 on PlayOnLinux 4.3.4 manually (in the 64-bit environment). The encouragement for attempting an install came from a Platinum rating on WineHQ at https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=34526 .

The kobosetup.exe is available at https://www.kobo.com/us/en/p/desktop . (The "Download now" pushbutton has some Javascript written to detect the OS, so pushing it doesn't work from Chrome on Manjaro Linux. I rebooted into Windows 7 for "a right-mouse-button on "Download now" to "save as", with the alternative to "view source" and decrypt the Akamai CDN location.

The book that I bought is a mix of English and Chinese, for which the latter characters weren't showing up correctly. Following "PlayOnLinux 4.2.2 --- How to correct the Chinese Font of the PlayOnLinux with Wine 1.9.6(x86) on Ubuntu/Lubuntu 14.04 x64" | Davidwa Wang | 2016/04/20 at https://daviwa.blogspot.com/2016/04/playonlinux-422-how-to-correct-chinese.html had me searching a DroidSansFallback.ttf , and copying the prescribed text into a Big5 fonts.reg , and importing that into the registry.

Kobo Desktop now appears to work correctly.

Successfully installed this package (Kobo Desktop Edition 3.0.4, copyright 2011) in January 2019.

At this time, my system has 4.19.13-1-MANJARO with KDE Plamsa Version 5.14.4, KDE Frameworks Version 5.53.0, Qt Version 5.12.0 .

Installation on Pamac initially failed, due to missing GPG keys. This was solved by following the instructions at https://forum.manjaro.org/t/howto-automatically-retrieve-missing-gpg-keys-during-making-packages-20180218/40688 .

On the MacBook beside me, I've installed Kobo Desktop Edition 4.12 (copyright 2018).

A dropbox link does not inspire confidence.

Doesn't build because the dropbox link is down.

Thanks twa022. AFAIK Kobo gave up recompiling a deb version and 3.04 is the latest. Builds perfectly however I have yet to test detection of my kobo device. My library reads fine, no troubles yet.

Line mkdir -p "$pkgdir" is not needed.
The desktop icon doesn't show up.
Change the category of the desktop file from Multimedia -> AudioVideo

I thought it would make more sense to package this all in /opt, but when I tried, images would no longer load properly. As it is, it installs to nonstandard directoies, so if anyone has any thoughts on that...

Also, if there is an official download link or a binary compiled against newer libraries, let me know
