Actually the package layout is intentional. Most programs that depend on the fmodex package only actually require some of the libs. fmodex however also provides some binaries and other stuff which I see no point in keeping around when only the libs are required. In most cases you can safely set a package depending on fmodex to depend on libfmod instead.

Hey, you can move this package to libfmodevent, and install only libfmodevent*.so files. This avoid fmodex conflicts.

I am aware installing this package will break quite some packages requiring fmodex but the fmodex package lacks the fmodevent libs, which are also required by some games. Also I don't see why I should install all the sources, if I only need the libraries. That's why I created this package. There's lib32-libfmod, too.
