A couple of things related to this package:

  • If you upgraded from version 1.2.1 to 1.2.2, check the /etc/lightdm.conf and replace the "slick-greeter" to "lightdm-slick-greeter" in line "greeter-session" (should be line 110 if not close to that line) since the change was not done automatically, newer installations shouldn't have that problem but I will check out; this should fix the issue of not loading the greeter while starting, you might have to do this via a terminal session (CTRL+ALT+F1-F6), after that, it should work as intended. My apologies on this particular issue

  • This is a fork of the unity-greeter on Ubuntu (lightdm-unity-greeter as it appears here on AUR) and many options on the PKGBUILD were copied and tested as much as possible from there, if you think that there is a different or better option for compiling, you can email me with some options and I will consider them before copying here.

  • Don't forget to manually make the change on the lightdm.conf file to use this greeter in case the installation doesn't make the change automatically (the name of the executable in the xsession folder it's called "lightdm-slick-greeter" with no quotes). You can check the LightDM article here on the wiki for more information

  • Although a fork of it, this package has nothing to do with the lightdm-unity-greeter, so please don't request to make this package a conflicting one with that (unity-greeter on AUR relies on a patched version of lightdm as well, which conflicts with the original lightdm), also I suggest you not to compile this package with the patched lightdm-ubuntu since I cannot guarantee that it may work

@Sam-Burgos : No, it doesn't work for me either. I tried everything. Doesn't simply work. I did a clean install of lightdm and slick-greeter again after uninstalling and tried to set the "draw-user-backgrounds = false" but no luck.

@Sam-Burgos : nothing seems to work here for me. Already set on "Off" for the value backgrounds.

@dhruvkelawala, @monsieurzik: after a couple of tests I have checked your issue and it seems that somehow this has a weird behaviour, so far what I have been able to do is add the line "draw-user-backgrounds=false" (or turn-off the value "Draw User Backgrounds" in lightdm-settings) and then it allows me to see the values as intended, check if that works ok for both of you, since at least for me it works after performing this

Unable to change background. Remains Black with Grid(even when grid is disabled). Numlock doesn't get activated(numlockx installed). All in all, no settings get applied, neither with lightdm-settings nor manually editing slick-greeter file.

lightdm-slick-greeter 1.2.7-1 : no way to change the background and remove the grid. Even when /etc/lightdm/slick-greeter.conf is edited in a shell.

@oxalin 1.2.4-2 also used the "master.mint19" so if you did not clean the build directory since then, the current pkgbuild would mistakenly think it is the new file and not redownload then fail due to sha256sum failure. if you look in the history b3daf0b7aada544f5430a222c16e44d9848384f9fc9ebefda3d06ab90a0e86b2 is the sha256sum of 1.2.4-2

oxalin commented on 2019-09-27 21:14

@Sam-Burgos: Something else must have gone wrong at some point. I had a look at the PKGBUILD file only because the package was not installing properly directly from Octopi. The master.mint19.tar.gz was downloaded at some point by the build process, but it was not the one you are referring to.

Cleaning the folder and relaunching the installation fixed the problem (sha256sum is now OK).

Sam-Burgos commented on 2019-09-27 15:37

@oxalin: this is the reason of why in the package installation pulls a "master.mint19" version despite reporting it here as "1.2.7", if I pull the proper 1.2.7 version the error you reported occurs and since the fix hasn't been released in a major version that's why I choose the "emergency" master version since that package does contain the fix

Version 1.2.7-1: sha256sum is wrong. It should be b3daf0b7aada544f5430a222c16e44d9848384f9fc9ebefda3d06ab90a0e86b2

Even then, build fails: greeter-list.vala:167.5-167.22: error: Creation method of abstract class cannot be public. public GreeterList (Background bg, MenuBar mb) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Compilation failed: 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)
