I don't link directly to the patch from the Gentoo website because sometimes they fall behind on versions and their default kernel configuration is different. I often have to modify the diff file for the patch to apply correctly and cleanly.

Why not link the fbcondecor patch?: http://dev.gentoo.org/~mpagano/genpatches/trunk/4.1/4200_fbcondecor-3.19.patch

Changed CONFIG_FB_EFI to "not set" because it doesn't play nice with fbcondecor during initial boot splash.

I'm disowning this package because I no longer use fbsplash and the related packages and currently do not have the time to set up a test machine to help maintain the package. If there's anyone out there that wants to maintain these packages, it would be greatly appreciated :).

nemesys commented on 2013-09-05 08:11

Updated patch works with kernels 3.7+
I scoured the gentoo forums and found that some of the patch for fb.h needed to be moved from; include/linux/fb.h to
include/uapi/linux/fb.h

My updated version can be found here; http://ix.io/7Rr
I have successfully compiled kernel 3.10.10 using the updated patch.

ShadowKyogre commented on 2013-06-03 18:52

@FoolEcho: Update the PKGBUILD to consider that. Also, while trying to get this PKGBUILD up to date with the most recent kernel (university studies have been slowing me down), I got this error during the patch applying step for fbcondecor:

http://pastebin.com/QYMGQ27e

I'm probably going to try suggesting some fixes to the person who's currently maintaining fbcondecor to fix that and/or orphan the package (if fixing the patch hunks that failed doesn't go smoothly).

FoolEcho commented on 2012-11-11 10:16

Hi. Could you remove the use of your custom variable _basekernel to define pkgver (it works using directly the archive with makepkg but a search through AUR or a wrapper doesn't allow to find a new version for this package, because "%.*}" appears instead of the right version number) ?

Anonymous comment on 2012-09-30 13:55

Due to recent changes in Arch Linux for the worse, and the bad, ignorant and arrogant attitude of the Arch Linux devs, who aren't able to take criticism, who only want to hear their own opinion, I decided to not contribute to Arch Linux anymore. So I orphan this package.

@OutOfPhase: I can't tell you anything about systemd, but this is a fbsplash issue. See my comment there.

Anonymous comment on 2012-09-08 22:09

Anyone know how to get fbcondecor working with systemd? I get the error message "FBIOCONDECOR_SETSTATE failed, error code 22."

@bayi: I currently can't give you a guidance. because I couldn't test it, yet. The only thing you can try is updating this package locally yourself based on the linux [testing] package from ABS.

bayi commented on 2012-07-12 17:43

@cyberpatrol:

im still using linux-fbcondecor on [testing] too :), but i compiled it before the glibc update and the move to /usr/lib with kmod. The kernel still works although i had to manually move the modules from /lib/modules to /usr/lib/modules and i had symlinked /usr/lib to /lib just for safety too ;)

Just the (re)compiling fails. I understand your concern to not fix something broken in [testing], but can you give me some guidance how to do it manually in my system ?

( i forgot to add CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G in the last update and now i cant :( )

okie, i just mention that the kernel still works i have /lib symlinked to /usr/lib and moved the modules manually there, i just cant recompile the kernel.
Can you please give me some guidance how to fix compiling manually on my end only ?

Anonymous comment on 2012-07-11 23:58

@bayi: I don't use [testing], so I can't test it. I follow strictly the kernel from [core] which still uses /lib. I guess linux 3.4.4-3 from [testing] was changed to /usr/lib. I will update the package as soon as it hits [core].

bayi commented on 2012-07-11 16:19

in "testing" after upgrading to glibc-2.16.0-2 and migrating /lib to /usr/lib i get the following error while building this kernel:

@cyberpatrol: thanks for you answer. I actually did contact upstream maintainer and am waiting for an answer. I just wanted to know if someone did notice the issue too or had any brilliant idea. I'll keep you informed if I have any news on that.

Anonymous comment on 2012-05-30 13:11

@noOtherOne: I haven't used the fbcondecor patch in a KVM guest, yet, and I currently can't test it, since I temporarily don't have internet access at home due to a broken mainboard. But it looks like an upstream issue. So it would probably best, if you would contact upstream at http://dev.gentoo.org/~spock.

Anonymous comment on 2012-05-30 12:55

Applying the fbcondecor patch on 3.3.X kernels will make it unstable on kvm (as guest). Does anyone already got this ?
The system get unresponsive with 100% usage on the kvm host. Same kernel without the patch and everything goes right.
Any idea ?

@cyberpatrol: I know about the licensing. I am purely asking as a matter of courtesy. :)

Anonymous comment on 2012-02-28 08:41

@wassup: Why would I? The AUR packages are free. I don't know how they are licensed actually, but there's nothing which will prevent you from forking them for adding additional features or patches. This package is also just forked from ABS.

wassup commented on 2012-02-28 03:03

@cyberpatrol: Fair enough. Would you mind if I forked it and added the bfs patch?

Anonymous comment on 2012-02-27 16:19

@wassup: The intention of this package is to provide the stock kernel with the fbcondecor patch. So I won't add additional patches which aren't in the stock kernel.

wassup commented on 2012-02-27 16:02

Would it be possible to add the bfs patch to this package?

Anonymous comment on 2012-01-04 00:40

It would be nice, if you would flag this package as out-of-date only if a new stable release of the package linux is in [core] since this is just the package linux (the official stock kernel) with the additional fbcondecor patch.

Anonymous comment on 2011-08-08 18:20

This is the upgrade of kernel26-fbcondecor. It's the stock kernel from [core] with the additional fbcondecor patch.

Be aware that the kernel and the initrd images have been renamed.

The kernel is now vmlinuz-linux-fbcondecor.
The initrd image is now initramfs-linux-fbcondecor.img resp. initramfs-linux-fbcondecor-fallback.img.

Don't forget to edit your bootloader's config before rebooting the system.
