For people who are using EFI/UEFI boot, as opposed to BIOS: In some versions of the rt patch there is a problem with efivars/efivarfs. Apparently this is a bug in the rt patch itself. If you have warnings like unknown file system type efivarfs during boot or if your /sys/firmware/efi/efivars directory is empty try adding efi=runtime to your kernel boot options.

I have spent a whole day to solve this problem, so again, this is a note for future people who might come across the same problem.

I'll bump to 4.19 series when 4.19 hits [core].

@kureta Yes it works!

kureta commented on 2018-10-12 16:51

@blackhole You have to edit the PKGBUILD file. Find the line _NUMAdisable=y and just delete the y. The line should be _NUMAdisable=. This was enough for me. Let me know if it works for you.

To clarify: don't try to manually edit the kernel config file.

EDIT: I discovered tat config.last has # CONFIG_NUMA is not set @kureta I checked config and NUMA is enabled, but CUDA is not working. Can you be more specific? Thanks... nvidia-dkms driver 410.57-4 an all other nvidia packages installed

I'll just leave this comment for the future people who might have problems with CUDA. My problems were solved by enabling NUMA support, thanks to this post.

@sir_lucjan efivars kernel module is also not loaded and I cannot enable it using modprobe efivars. It says modprobe: FATAL: Module efivars not found in directory /lib/modules/4.18.7-rt5-3-rt-bfq. This module is loaded when I use the default kernel. Why is there a difference between which modules are used in these two kernels? I guess that is the main thing I am unable to understand.

@blackhole Do I need to modify PKGBUILD of linux-rt-bfq to compile it using modprobe-db?

blackhole commented on 2018-09-21 13:50

Here the module nvidia_uvm is there, but I have compiled with modprobe-db
