That's great news, tfotherby!
I'll check it out later today and if it works for me too I'll release a new PKGBUILD.

For me, my Squeezebox-server wasn't working ever since the ArchLinux update to Perl 5.12. Today, I successfully got the squeezebox-server to run by editing the PKGBUILD file to use a nigthly build (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/7.5/sc/31223/squeezeboxserver-7.5.2-31223.tgz) - i.e the "inherited AUTOLOAD" problem seems fixed in nightly.

Well, the nightly build 7.5.2-31156 didn't work for me on i686; it raised more errors than I could fix.
With perl-5.12 running 7.5.1, the "inherited AUTOLOAD" problem can be fixed by workarounds, for instance: http://www.perlmonks.org/?node_id=328915
However, lots of modules still fail to load, and I'm not sure why exactly... :S

I can confirm that nightly works well on perl-5.12.1@64bit.
(I've used 7.5.2-31156 and the current PKGBUILD)

Well, according to http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=563656 and the posts above, the Slim Devices guys are/were working on it.
Waiting for a clean fix, rather than downgrading perl, one might try a squeezebox-server nightly build...

Well, sjakub, perl-5.12.1 is now in core and I've been hit by the same problem you had - seems I was wrong considering this as a perl problem.
Unfortunately I won't have much time in the next few days to investigate, so any help is more than welcome.
Naturally, a fixed PKGBUILD will be updated as soon as we have a fix. :)

My mistake; this is now fixed.

yaourt/makepkg says:
==> WARNING: Invalid backup entry : etc/conf.d/squeezebox-server.conf
vesath commented on 2010-05-29 16:55 (UTC)
That sounded like a permission problem, but if it only breaks with perl-5.12, I really don't know...
For the time being, I'd rather think this is a perl issue that you testing people will fix before it reaches core. ;)
If it isn't, then I'll look into writing a patch for slimserver when perl does hit core.
