Manual intervention required in the -3 update: Either install using "--force" or remove the currently installed version and then install the updated one.

@emgaron: Thanks for the hint! I asked at https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/lxpanel-gtk3#comment-1057212 Will adjust the dependency as soon as we figure out the best way to handle the situation!

The dependency on lxpanel-gtk3 seems to be no longer necessary - lxpanel-gtk3 from AUR is a lower version than the standard version that comes with LXDE these days. I just build the package after changing the dependencies to

depends=('gtk3' 'cairo' 'lxpanel>=0.5.8' 'multiload-ng-common')

and the plugin works just fine with the standard lxpanel - no need to replace it.
