@GoodbyeNJN I wonder if you have considered this issue: electron33 originally exists in the "extra" repository, and some users have already installed electron33. These users do not need to install electron33-bin. Additionally, as seen in the AUR interface, this application depends on either electron33 or electron33-bin, and there are many, many similar cases.

GoodbyeNJN commented on 2025-05-28 15:43 (UTC)

What users expect when they choose the *-bin package is that they don't need to build from source, whereas currently the package's dependencies need to be built from source, and the source is n times larger than the package itself. I think this is putting the cart before the horse and is very unreasonable, please seriously consider changing the electron33 to the electron33-bin.

@tornado99 It's not a bug.electron30 was in the [extra] repo before, and when the upsteam stopped the maintains, it was moved to AUR. So if you havn't installed electron30 before, you'd better install electron30-bin first.

There is a bug in this package. Without electron33-bin preinstalled it tries to download a 25GB file and build electron from source.

@Th30 This package was built from electron30, so I just keep the necessary files and use the system-wide electron which may have been installed.

@FabioLolix Thanks for your suggestion, fixed it.

I confirm that openssl-1.0 is not required. This dependency stops me from installing the package :/ I removed this dependency and the package is now installed correctly.

I have another question, if it's a binary package, why use electron? Isn't the package already compiled?

FabioLolix commented on 2024-10-09 16:15 (UTC)

@zxp19821005 openssl-1.0 is not needed to at least launch the program

@skylab no, electron30 is in the Arch repo, if you wanna use electron30-bin just install that

It would be better to use dependency "electron30-bin" instead of "electron30" by default

@mandeepsan this binary package is a duplicate of mailspring-bin, so a merge request would move all the votes and comments to the mailspring-bin package and delete this package

this package name is more suited for a source based package built from this PKGBUILD

if you don't want to maintain the package to use sources then a merge request will be filed and this package will be migrated into mailspring-bin, leaving the mailsprint package name available for anyone else wanting to maintain the package from the sources
