Yes, this is a known issue when building the project with the recommended
CMakebuild system:https://github.com/mapnik/mapnik/issues/4330
As for
python-mapnik, there is an open pull request to handle the lack ofmapnik-config:https://github.com/mapnik/python-mapnik/pull/274

Wow, not easy to install. It's like building a browser! It was missing a dependency upon python-cmake-bin. And once installed, it doesn't seem to have the mapnik-config binary which is required by https://github.com/mapnik/python-mapnik 🤦♂️

Hello dhummel. I was maintaining this package as I needed it for my job, but unfortunately, because of my job, I have not had the time to fix it again.
I have added you as a co-maintainer. I have never added a co-maintainer before, but hopefully that gives you the access you need to push changes to the package :).

Hello FritzOnFire, there have been numerous changes to mapnik's repo since your last update and unfortunately this is no longer building because of that. Are you still maintaining this package? I would be happy to take over if you like. Thanks!
