mate-panel-gtk2
has been unbuildable for some time, then some of its dependencies got deleted, and now that package itself has been dropped from AUR.
So there's no point in keeping this build any longer.

Well, in this case, the gtk2 packages should be deleted indeed!
In the Xfce version I actually requested the merging of the gtk2 and gtk3 packages to make a possibly smooth transition for gtk2 users. But I assume that nobody is using the gtk2 package in 2023 anyway, so simply deleting it should do as well.
More than half of all MATE-GTK2 packages from 2017 fail to build on current Arch Linux, and all of them are submitted for deletion. (Some deletion requests have already been accepted by AUR PM.)
Thanks for the hint! This package depends on https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mate-panel-gtk2 which still exists. Maybe it should be considered for deletion as well? I'm not up to date regarding what is happening in the Mate world currently...
This package is no longer needed, as MATE does not support Gtk2 since 2017.
