Looks like this conflicts with the new suitesparse version, which now provides metis.

I strongly suggest to keep the p1 patches. They are needed to make metis work outside toy examples.

Unfortunately metis is pretty much unmaintained so the p1 patches won't applied any time soon, but without them I could not make metis work in large graphs.

It seems like the package from does not contain standalone programs (gpmetis etc.) for some reason so I think it would be nice to use the package from

Meanwhile as a workaround for people who need the standalone programs:

1. Uncomment the first `source` link and comment the second one
2. Remove `.p1` and `-p1` from `pkgver` and `_pkgver`
3. Change the `sha256sums` to the following:

Sorry for the late reply but I'm on holidays... I'm disowning the package so that jedbrown can keep up maintaining it, just like he did before the AUR4 transition

jedbrown commented on 2015-08-11 15:15

@eleftg This distribution of metis no longer installs the gklib headers which are needed by parmetis (see error observed by @noctlos). Yes, this is a problem with George's packaging, but METIS and ParMETIS are effectively abandonware so we need to make accommodations. The headers were installed in the patched version of metis that I used prior to your taking over maintainership.

How can I install these programs :

ezzetabi commented on 2014-09-16 16:25

I see, but why there are no command line programs? I am asking because I need gpmetis.

jedbrown commented on 2014-09-16 15:28

METIS upstream is quasi-unmaintained. "p1" carries externally-managed patches for critical bugs encountered on real problems. The patches have been submitted upstream, but no reply. (In our experience, one has to talk to George in person in order to get patches applied.)

I am possibly missing the obvious, but what is this p1 thingy?
This package does not compile the executable for the command line interface...

Thanks, I didn't know 5.1.0.p1 was acceptable. Updated.

There are some issues with the current PKGBUILD (the full upstream version number is omitted, empty variables are included, path and other variables are unquoted).

I have uploaded a source tarball that resolves these issues which you can find here:

Please update the package with these changes. Thanks for maintaining this package.

Updated, preserving the same pkgrel because this does not affect the installed package.

Hi, cmake is not listed as a makedepend for this package, but it should be.

md5sum for metis-4.0.tar.gz is d3848b454532ef18dc83e4fb160d1e10

and line29 replace

cd ${srcdir}/${pkgname}-${_pkgvershort}

cd ${srcdir}/${pkgname}-${pkgver}
