I think I have found the problem, it was just an extra '&' that was avoiding makepkg to wait until the installer finished before starting packing files. Just change: $srcdir/$installer --mode text <inst_input & to $srcdir/$installer --mode text <inst_input And it should work (at least works for me).

Those errors occur when Microchip's installer fails. In the pkgbuild, change $srcdir/$installer --mode text <inst_input &>/dev/null || true to $srcdir/$installer --mode text <inst_input and run it again. You should see the output from the Microchip installer - post the errors from that whenever you get a chance.

Doesn't install correctly. /opt/microchip/xc16 only contains one folder (v1.20), which is empty. There also were some errors during install, see here: http://pastebin.com/8cudKxem I will install the compiler via the microchip installer again and will try again when you fixed it. By the way, it seems to be the same problem like the one of winter_kan's post from 10-17.

fakeroot is not passing verification. using --skipinteg then installing also yeilds no binary in /opt/microchip/xc16/v1.11/bin as the v1.11 directory is empty. sorry, i'm not a linux guru so i'm not sure what might cause this.

Thanks for the heads up. When I first took over the package there was no multilib fakeroot in the official repos. I've switched mplabx ide over to start using the multilib package and will switch the compilers over on the next update from Microchip.
