@ponchale The description "Midori Web private and secure browser" still has some of the same problems as the previous one. Do not request any more description changes that do not fix these issues:
- Self-referencing, in violation of Arch packaging guidelines.
- Does not differentiate from previous Midori incarnations, which were based on different rendering engines.

@xiota your testing, please make it public and tell us the environment and configuration so we can make a comparison.
We show the evidence.
AnAnd then we requested again to change the name to Midori Web private (privacy-friendly) and secure browser without the content that's in the middle of the parentheses.
Thank you

@xiota I'm not threatening, I'm requesting or coming up with a very simple change, change the description using the description of the application as a base, taking into account that version 9 is no longer supported and outdated. In addition, version 11.2.1 will be available soon, which has many changes. I would like to know what you propose to remedy since you used this word, what is your proposal?

@xiota Misleading motto? Wow, it honestly seems to me that this is a personal issue, I will escalate the request and/or, failing that, request the removal of Midori.
xiota commented on 2024-02-01 23:11 (UTC) (edited on 2024-02-01 23:16 (UTC) by xiota)
@ponchale Do not make the exact same request again.
The description, "Midori Web Browser, lightweight, fast and secure", is in violation of Arch packaging guidelines and does not differentiate from previous Midori incarnations based on different rendering engines.
Midori is not expected to be significantly different from other descendants of Firefox ESR, in terms of performance, size, resource usage, security profile, or any other meaningful parameter.
I do not care about your motto when it is misleading, whether intentional or unintentional.

@xiota In the Wiki you can say and inform that we use Firefox/Floorp as a base, we are not removing the credits or considerations towards the original projects, we only request that just as each project has its motto and its distinction, they respect that of Midori.
This request is made with great respect, commitment and solidarity.

I am not arguing your point of view or what you think, I am just telling you the description by which Midori has always been characterized.
1) Midori never refers to the lightness of the installation but to the lightness of the consumption. 2) 7 to 8% - when you do the public tests we will do a live test of the installation and resource consumption.
I respectfully request that you change the description of the browser, Midori Web Browser, lightweight, fast and secure.
The credits towards the projects are being respected and are set out in our README.
I make this request respectfully given that it is the original description of the project that at some point we hope will be transferred to the official repositories given your support and commitment.

@ponchale I am not using the description you request ("Midori Lightweight Web Browser, fast and secure") for the following reasons:
- It is self-referencing, in violation of Arch packaging guidelines.
- It does not differentiate from previous Midori incarnations, based on different rendering engines.
extra/midori
still contains version 9.0, based on webkit.- Some versions of Midori were based on electron.
- It is inaccurate.
- Midori is not particularly fast. From my testing, Midori performs about 7-8% worse than Floorp, 25% worse than Firefox 121.
- Users are encouraged run their own benchmarks on their own machines.
- Midori is not lightweight.
- Installation requires about 260MB. The webkit version requires about 112MB, including webkit2gtk library.
- Resource usage is not expected to be any different from other Firefox ESR descendants.
- Midori is not particularly fast. From my testing, Midori performs about 7-8% worse than Floorp, 25% worse than Firefox 121.

Midori 11.x.y is based on Floorp.
For Midori 9.x, based on WebKit, use
PKGBUILD.midori-classic
(included withaur/midori
).If you have problems building, try building in a clean chroot.
Some options are available:
_build_pgo=false makepkg
– Build without PGO. Faster compilation, but reduced performance._build_pgo_reuse=false makepkg
– Make a new profile. Can delete the old profile for similar effect._build_pgo_xvfb=true makepkg
– Usexvfb
for profiling. This package reuses the previously created PGO profile to reduce rebuild times while retaining most of the performance benefit of PGO. Generate a new profile when:
