@rellieberman: Greetings, this is due to the new "Styles" option that Cinnamon itself has implemented, but to make it possible you have one out of 2 options:

  • You create a customized style
  • You reuse one of the available ones

In both cases you must have a matching/defined GTK theme, a Cinnamon theme and a cursor theme, if you don't fulfill the three conditions, then the "simplified way" won't appear at all.

Thus, the reason of why this package was created and you can use it to bring at least the Cinnamon mint themes, regarding other combinations, keep in mind that it either depends on upstream available options or I could go on myself and create one and make it available (which I cannot promise due to time issues IRL, also I had a hard time understanding the syntax required).

It happened before with the mint-themes packages update, here you can see the problems I had (the user taopend had them too): https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mint-themes/ I uninstalled mint-themes, reinstalled mint-x-theme package, and this issue was finished for me. When I saw the mint-x-theme package update available (from 1.2.8 to 1.3.0) I was skeptical, so I had my mint-x-theme_1.2.8 package ready in case something were wrong. After rebooting the first thing I saw was the panel with a different color; the black-grey left panel (places) in caja instead clear grey; the volume slider wasn't as it was after upgrading mint-themes but didn't convince me by the way; and I could change the font color from gey (invisible) to black in tooltips but despite it all the environment wasn't the same. So I didn't check anything else and in about 1 minute I had downgraded to 1.2.8 again and blacklisted mint-x-theme updates.

I just updated the package with the latest upstream tarball. I don't see any obvious issues on my computer that is running MATE. Can you be more descriptive or maybe provide a screenshot?

With this update MATE does not look like Mint anymore (at least like Mint 16 and before, I don't know how will Mint 17 look). I come back to the previous version (1.2.8).
