hi, I have this error when building: + install /tmp/makepkg/mpv-git/pkg/mpv-git/usr/share/zsh/site-functions/_mpv (from build/etc/_mpv) Waf: Leaving directory `/tmp/makepkg/mpv-git/src/mpv/build' 'install' finished successfully (0.780s) /home/luis/builds/mpv-git/PKGBUILD: line 74: /tmp/makepkg/mpv-git/src/find-deps.py: Permission denied ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in package(). Aborting... ... somebody else? I don't know if I missing something :/ ... thanks :-)

Good idea; done. It'll only show the first time you install, though, I don't want to bother people every time they upgrade.

Ya I see your point, something similar happens with vim. Maybe a message in the .INSTALL file then?

An optdepend would suggest that mpv would still run if you uninstalled it, which would not be the case if you linked at build time. If you build it with lua52 installed, it will be a (hard) depend of the generated package. Also, it doesn't have to be lua52; luajit works as well (I believe). I know the dependency system is non-ideal, but I haven't thought of anything better. The way it is prevents dependencies from getting out of sync, and allows everyone to use whichever optional features they want without having to install a bunch of stuff they don't or edit the PKGBUILD every time. The price is that you have to figure out which extra packages you need the first time you install, but at least you only have to do that once. If you can think of a better system, I'm all ears.

Could you add lua52 as optional dependency? It would be nice at least to know which version it (optionally) needs.

Works for me. Maybe a transient issue. Try again?

You're completely correct, I mean the OSC. I just searched the internet and the first result I found for the OSC was that it needs luajit, so I just assumed that this is a dependency. I just realized I included your commented dependencies and it so happens that they list lua (but the list is, as you wrote, out of date).

I assume you're talking about the OSC, as the OSD doesn't require lua. Even for that, though, it doesn't have to be luajit. lua52 works as well. Whichever one you use will be picked up as a dependency automatically. What's the rationale for explicitly depending on luajit? It would make trouble for people who use lua52 instead (which I think is most people) and for anyone who wants to build without lua altogether.
