This package should more closely map to the mpv package in community, i.e. the default build should use an identical build config to mpv. The "optional" features in the PKGBUILD are not really desirable.

I needed to add LANG=C to the build function, otherwise build would fail with a linking error.

@ekce Sounds like it could be https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/issues/7104 which was fixed today. I can reproduce the crash with that commit reverted and --gpu-api=opengl, but with master as of this writing it's fine. Try again?

If it's still broken for you, open an issue upstream. Even if it ends up being a problem with your system and not a bug in mpv, that's probably a better place to figure it out. AUR comments aren't great for debugging.

See the comments on mpv-build-git. It's possible that the most recent build has a bug that causes it to crash right after starting up.

Oh, actually, I wasn't aware of that dependency chain. Pretty sure that's a somewhat recent change. Given that, you'd have to try pretty hard to build mpv without vulkan-icd-loader installed. I think it's totally fair to add vulkan-headers as a makedepend at this point. It's a tiny and harmless package anyway.

Thanks a lot for checking that out and letting me know! I'll update the package.

Edit: Of course it couldn't be that easy. This is going to change again soon: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/64267 and libplacebo won't be an implicit depend anymore. Maybe I'll put the vulkan option back but leave it default enabled.

ah I see, I did a quick check and saw vulkan-icd-loader is required by dav1d, which is something ffmpeg requires. and mpv requires ffmpeg for sure. but I gues its stil possible to not have vulkan-icd-loader in some cases.

If you have vulkan-icd-loader installed, you must also install vulkan-headers or mpv will fail to build.

vulkan-headers isn't a hard makedepend because you can build without it, but only if vulkan-icd-loader is also not installed, because of a weird packaging situation that's out of my control (vulkan-icd-loader contains a pkg-config file for vulkan, but not the headers). The PKGBUILD does make an attempt to detect this situation and add the makedepend on vulkan-headers, but that apparently doesn't work with some AUR helpers (depending on when / how they source the PKGBUILD, probably).

complaining about missing vulkan-headers when I try to install this, after installing it builds fine. might want to add that as builddep
