I have updated this to 43.2. Please report any VRR issues at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1154. You may need to compile this with --nocheck (ex: makepkg -si --nocheck), I am working on resolving the failing tests, but it appears to be related to running on a system that already has the audio subsystem in-use.

Thanks to https://github.com/Aviana and https://github.com/KyleGospo for their related patches which helped me do this fast.

In the future, I expect to be less busy so this long delay should not happen again.

@Sir-Potch, as I stated in the pinned comment: "You may need to compile this with --nocheck (makepkg -si --nocheck), I am working on resolving the failing tests, but it appears to be related to running on a system that already has the audio subsystem in-use."

Testing fails for me:

Summary of Failures:

 49/216 mutter:cogl+cogl/conform / cogl-test-journal-gl FAIL 1.06s (exit status 250 or signal 122 SIGinvalid)
 50/216 mutter:cogl+cogl/conform / cogl-test-journal-gl3 FAIL 1.07s (exit status 250 or signal 122 SIGinvalid)
 51/216 mutter:cogl+cogl/conform / cogl-test-journal-gles2 FAIL 1.08s (exit status 250 or signal 122 SIGinvalid)
 58/216 mutter:cogl+cogl/conform / cogl-test-read-texture-formats-gl UNEXPECTEDPASS 0.87s
 59/216 mutter:cogl+cogl/conform / cogl-test-read-texture-formats-gl3 UNEXPECTEDPASS 0.86s
166/216 mutter:core+mutter/backend / monitor-unit FAIL 33.13s (exit status 250 or signal 122 SIGinvalid)

At the beginning, there is an additional error message, stating that my pipewire module is already in use and locked. Is this the issue causing this?

There are some possible regressions and edge cases I am still testing for and I will update this as needed

@Purplebaboon This vrr patch is still a work in progress and you should report your findings to the developer. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1154

I got the patch to work. I have started using an extension to disable unredirect full screen windows to work around a bug in full screen windows when I disable it the vrr patch works perfectly. It's just a shame that I now have to choose between full screen windows working properly and vrr, I think it's time for me to give KDE another shot.

@mezutelni he said thursday he didn't specify which one. (I'm joking I know this is hard work, I tried to compile it myself and failed miserably)

@nikl720 I also had tests fail when compiling the @dot_avi patch, commenting out the test got it to compile and I was able to get a video output and enable vrr in settings but testing with vrrtest it seems like vrr is not working, I'm still getting the stuttering I would expect at lower frame rates with vrr disabled on Wayland.

@CorvetteCole your work is greatly appreciated.

@mezutelni Just use the updated package by @dot_avi for now: https://github.com/Aviana/mutter-vrr and https://github.com/Aviana/gnome-control-center-vrr it works (i had to comment out the testing part, but that was also the case sometimes with the original AUR package, sometimes the tests passed, sometimes not so i think it was probably only an issue on my machine)

@CorvetteCole Is there any ETA when we could except update? Would love to enable VRR on my Gnome desktop
