@davidovitch: You might want to open an issue upstream. The project is not maintained right now and there are a few issues currently.

How do you make this package work for you? I get 

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/nautilus-python/extensions/nautilus-git.py", line 39, in <module>
    from utils import is_git
ImportError: cannot import name 'is_git' from 'utils' (/usr/share/nautilus-compare/utils.py)

I think it is because utils.py is not byte compiled so it can not be imported. Not sure how to add a 

python -m compileall src/utils.py

to the meson build instructions though.
