@inittux111 we might have them as separate packages for a while to ensure everything goes smoothly though, later on at least my plan is to bundle them.

@Lysec if they are going to be bundled as one that I don't have a problem with it, I was afraid that I would have an extra AUR package where I couldn't replace it with a repo package as I do now with quickshell-git.

@inittux111 yes that's the plan, however in the long run er plan to bundle noctalia-shell with our QS fork so it will be one package - only maintained by us. So I don't really see the issue, given noctalia-shell/-git is already an AUR package

inittux111 commented on 2026-02-21 08:22 (UTC)

@Lysec Is that really the plan, I hate being force to use another AUR dependency if there is a repo package available or will I be able to keep using the quickshell package from the repo when the happens like with quickshell-git now?

Lysec commented on 2026-02-21 07:05 (UTC)

@ninchan the quickshell dependency will be switched at a later point. The fork is still very much in a testing phase (that's why it's not mentioned on our website etc). As soon as we think it's stable enough we will replace the dep :)

Noctalia has released its own Folk repository based on QuickShell, and it's available on AUR. Could you add a dependency, noctalia-qs-git, as an alternative to QuickShell-git?

@Lysec Thanks, will try that and see how it works out.

@inittux111, yeah I can totally understand that and to be fair, you could just use quickshell instead of quickshell-git, we try to not implement things that are quickshell-git only.

@Lysec Thanks! I was just trying to keep all my packages to none-git versions as it's easier to see if something is changed when updating with an AUR helper, in case of a situation where a git repo where to be compromised as you see more news on PKGBUIDLS with malware in the AUR.

@inittux111 we mostly did it because people were encountering issues with crashes due to the fact that the quickshell package was not being rebuilt when Qt updates happened. It was either that or wating for a fix. While the maintainer did change and it is fine now, we already changed before that happened so now we'll stick with it I guess.
