No one else packaged yet the variable fonts, so here's it.

That's a lot of split packages, I suggest that you read the official README-formats.md before asking what you should install.

There are 3 types of packages:

  • noto-fonts-cjk-vf: Variable OTCs.
  • noto-fonts-cjk{-language}-vf: Variable Multilingual OTF, these are the ones with a default language set, for when OpenType locl is not being used.
    • There's no Serif font for HK, so the TC one is installed. Note that this is still a multi-lingual CJK font.
  • noto-fonts{-language}-vf: Variable Region-specific OTF, containing only a subset version of the font for a specific language.
    • There's no Serif font for HK, and the TC is not installed because this is a subset package that contains language-specific font config.
    • I saw that similar packages for the static fonts on the AUR are packaging the monospace fonts, so I added it also, even though it's a bit wrong, as it's actually a multi-lingual CJK font, and not a single language font. But I think that here actual user preference matter more than being correct. This might need a fix to the font config, it's pretty much untested.

Serif fonts are not available at all as variable fonts, so the static variants were added to each one of the packages.
This makes the packages much larger, but it's better than not having the serif fonts at all.
