Ignore the previous comment, the culprit was the

keepdevbuilddir = yes

in ~/.config/pikaur.conf.

Still, I would suggest accounting for both cases (config.h exists/doesn't exist) by using a line like this instead in prepare function inside the PKGBUILD:

[ ! -f config.h ] && cp config.def.h config.h

Latest version of nsxiv-git, 29.r0.g231b317-1, requires commenting out the line

ln -s config.def.h config.h

in the function prepare in PKGBUILD to be able to compile, since the file config.h already exists in the repository.
