yeap i rebooted before starting compiling and then i came out with that problem... :( "uname -r" shows 3.1.9-1-ARCH

@theodore: I will test compiling the kernel module soon and if necessary I will look for a fix. Just to be sure: Did you reboot your machine after updating the kernel? So does "uname -r" show version 3.1.9 already? The thing here is that the running kernel and the installed kernel headers have to be the same version.

checking if linux kbuild requires EXTRA_CFLAGS... yes checking for linux kernel module build works... no configure: error: in `/home/theodore/Desktop/openafs/src/openafs-1.6.0': configure: error: Fix problem or use --disable-kernel-module... See `config.log' for more details ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build(). Aborting... after the last update of the kernel when i tried to recompile the package i took this error. Any idea? what is wrong with the kernel module? should i disable it from the PKGBUILD?

@Bevan: That was definetly the case. I rebooted and tried to compaile again -- with success. :D Thank you.

@nickoe: I guess that you have installed linux-headers 3.1.5-1 but you are still running Linux kernel 3.1.4 (maybe not yet rebooted after the latest kernel update?)

I can not compile this version (1.6.0-2), I get the following error (I compile through yaourt): ... checking whether printf understands the %z length modifier... yes checking your OS... configure: WARNING: No usable linux headers found at /usr/src/linux so disabling kernel module linux checking your AFS sysname... configure: error: Couldn't guess your Linux version. Please use the --with-afs-sysname option to configure an AFS sysname. ==> ERROR: A failure occurred in build(). Aborting... ==> ERROR: Makepkg was unable to build openafs. I am on the following kernel: $ uname -srvm Linux 3.1.4-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 29 08:55:45 CET 2011 x86_64

Package needs new maintainer. (I no longer actively use AFS.)
