@Living Sorry, I don't know exactly how to do that. I guess one needs to run an own bitcoin node.

I am using my own fork (from this PR) where one can disable that check and you can verify the hash manually by looking it up in any bitcoin chain explorer.

When I try to verify a Git commit signed with GPG+OTS I get this error message from the ots-git-gpg-wrapper.sh:

ots: Got 4 attestation(s) from cache
ots: Could not connect to Bitcoin node: Cookie file unusable ([Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/living/.bitcoin/.cookie') and rpcpassword not specified in the configuration file: '/home/living/.bitcoin/bitcoin.conf'

I have no bitcoin software installed and no folder ~/.bitcoin. Are there (optional) dependencies required for verifying the bitcoin blockchain proof?

Please kindly add conflicts=('opentimestamps-client') as well.

This is in accordance with VCS package guidelines, even in case there is no non-git package in existence.
