To build the package you need to manually download the no-jre archive from Oracle's site[1] and place it in the same directory with the PKGBUILD[2] and then run makepkg.

[1] https://www.oracle.com/tools/downloads/sqldev-downloads.html, you need "Other platforms"

Could you add 'Database' and 'Java' to the Categories in the desktop file. See https://standards.freedesktop.org/menu-spec/latest/apas02.html

@Adiq you need to download it manually, then Edit the PKGBUILD during installation if you are using the yaourt you have to copy it into /tmp/yaourt-tmp-<userName>/aur-oracle-sqldeveloper/ and if you are using the pacaur you need to copy it into ~.cache/pacaur/ or you can simply download PKGBUILD put it side by side of the sql-developer and use makepkg to install it. do not forget to update the pkgver inside the PKGBUILD file

Could you use an icon with transparent background for the starter? I used this one: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tgykLz5wqRI/UZyplio2WvI/AAAAAAAAAeI/3z9GxdRW9Ws/s1600/1.png

Another piece of the puzzle: if I execute as root the sqldeveloper.sh script from the unzipped downloaded archive it does not work. There must be something with my java setup or permissions. Has anyone an idea? Here is my setup: $ archlinux-java status Available Java environments: java-7-openjdk java-8-openjdk (default)

Thank you, but this does not solve the issue. Also changing the scripts to exclude the "can't recognize the JDK version" error, I get a segmentation fault in the jvm (in fact it can retrieve correctly the java path). I think there must be something related to the packaging, since if I simply unzip the downloaded archive and execute the sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper.sh script, it opens correctly the app.
