To install all versions of packettracer except 7.2.2, follow this guidelines: 1. Download the snapshot from this AUR. 2. Tar -zxf the packettracer.tar.gz snapshot (it creates the dir packettracer/ with the PKGBUILD on it). 3. Download the latest packettracer tarball from your Netacad account and copy it into the packettracer/ dir. 4. Create the package with the command makepkg (it creates a packettracer.pkg.tar.xz). 5. Install the package with either makepkg -i or sudo pacman -U packettracer.pkg.tar.xz.

Packettracer 7.2.2 are auto installable via run file, download it from netacad webpage and run it, you don't need this package.

@panagiss,

Log into your Cisco account, download the Ubuntu version of Packet Tracer, and put it in the AUR's packettracer folder.

Yeah. That can be a problem when taking the module exams and practice certification exams. Blame it on Cisco, as the developers did not test their program with light and dark themes. I even get white text in white background in some areas when using a dark theme in KDE. Dark theme in GNOME? Works just fine as the GTK theme is not associated with Packet Tracer.

Plus, Cisco did not enumerate the list of fonts installed in a Linux system. When working in a terminal, I get a sans font instead of a monospace font. When I get an error, the marker will not be placed where an error occurred. I've had to copy the command and the output to the text editor that already uses a monospace font to find out what went wrong.

Thanks, running in Plasma though. I got it to launch a bit better adding your line to the application launch line but tried it for the application association and it still launches as before if I take a pkt file and open.

@erylflynn Add or modify the .desktop file for cisco-pt,desktop:

grayson@grayson-epcotcenter
  ~
 $ cat .local/share/applications/cisco-pt.desktop
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Exec=XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME /opt/packettracer/packettracer %f
Name=Packet Tracer 8.0.0
Icon=/opt/packettracer/art/app.png
Terminal=false
StartupNotify=true
MimeType=application/x-pkt;application/x-pka;application/x-pkz;

Categories=Application;Network;

Add XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME to ExecStart= before /opt/packettracer/packettracer %f and that should solve the problem unless you open Packet Tracer in GNOME desktop.

Is there a way to fix some of the font coloring issues? I use a dark theme and find some menus are not visible unless I hover or click on where they are. Otherwise the font and the background are the same. So far not finding anyway to correct, not sure what the font/background is in the theme.

The latest file from the Cisco website is CiscoPacketTracer_801_Ubuntu_64bit.deb, I edited the PKGBUILD filename dependency and used updpkgsums and installed everything but when I run PacketTracer, nothing happens. Sorry I'm really new to all of this, any help?

EDIT: Got it to work by installing Qt5, but I can only launch it from the terminal, not the shortcut when using an application finder.

Qt WebEngine resources not found at /opt/packettracer/bin/resources. Trying parent directory...
Installed Qt WebEngine locales directory not found at location /opt/packettracer/bin/translations/qtwebengine_locales. Trying application directory...

EDIT 2: Somehow got the shortcut to work.. last thing I did was see what file the shortcut was linked to and right clicked->revert.. not sure if that did it but everything is functioning now..
