Thank you, adding -fcommon to CFLAGS_FOR_GCC in Makefile cleared up the problem instantly.

Needed -fcommon like many other packages.

No longer builds, not sure what changed, but the loader throws many errors about multiple definitions of quite a few variables. I also grabbed a slightly newer version (1.3.5) which has the same issues.
It looks as though global variables are defined in the header files rather than just declared, and then defined in the c modules. Fixing this looks laborious (if this is the case).
I'm not sure, though, as this must have build successfully previously?
