I'm stepping in as maintainer of this package (unless someone else would prefer to handle it, but I'll handle it for now).

I've updated this package to build "181.4892.97", which is currently the "stable" version of PHPStorm. I'm following @fightcookie's logic and also believe that "phpstorm-eap" should always be the most-up-to-date version fo PHPStorm.

However, @glagola notes that if the EAP is ever installed after a stable release, the expiration date stops updating (unfortunately, I read this after updating the package, of course). If that is still the case, I'll be sure not to update this package with a "stable" release in the future.

I don't use the EAP for a long time now, because I think it is worth the money for a software I use on a daily base. For a while maintaining the package was pretty straight forward. Things changed and I neither has the time, nor the patience to maintain this package anymore. Someone else may take it over. It was a nice trip.

@KingCrunch please update package, the license of current package (172.3757.60-1) will expire at September 10.

glagola commented on 2017-09-09 10:04

@fightcookie The main problem of mixing stable and EAP - for me it is licence issues. If I install EAP after stable I'll have to purge all config files of the phpstorm, cause the licence expiration date won't be updated automatically in this case.

christeraustad commented on 2017-08-01 13:23

Jetbrains provides HTTPS download for this package. Maybe you should change to HTTPS instead of HTTP?

For me this helps me circumvent the corporate network security. But in general a HTTPS connection is always recommended when available.

KingCrunch commented on 2017-04-21 20:57

> curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 403 Forbidden

Jetbrains remove outdated EAP packages after some time, or in this case immediately.

> when the stable version is newer than the EAP release, isn't the stable version the one everyone wants to use, because EAP users always want the newest release?

This package focus on the release from the early-access-programm and don't wants to be mixed up with stable release. Latter one requires a different license too. I assume that would lead to more confusing.

Sorry, but I don't decide which release somebody should use.

@KingCrunch regarding your pinned comment: when the stable version is newer than the EAP release, isn't the stable version the one everyone wants to use, because EAP users always want the newest release?
It would be a hassle to constantly switch between EAP and stable.
I don't think many people want to use the EAP just because it is the EAP, but because it is the newest available release.

Am I missing something or what is the rationale behind not upgrading to a newer stable release in this package? :)

MightyPork commented on 2017-01-29 14:37

The package does not build now, some problem with /opt/.

Fixed by moving the install lines from prepare() to package()

KingCrunch commented on 2017-01-04 20:53

The rational behind this is, that phpstorm can use the probably/maybe more recent system-wide java installation, if it exists. I've once taken it from 'phpstorm' [1], but it seems, that they already changed their approach, so I'll do too.

brn commented on 2016-12-30 09:21

Can I please ask why this package includes /etc/profile.d/ IDEA doesn't use similar file and it works OK. I'm asking because of the font issues.

I had to create a similar profile.d file to export those:
export WEBIDE_JDK=/usr/lib/jvm/intellij-jdk/bin
export IDEA_JDK=/usr/lib/jvm/intellij-jdk/bin

But I feel it's a crappy solution.

Please stop marking this package as outdated, when the EAP-page links to the current stable. In this case there is no new EAP available, but the latest version is the stable one. Use then.

Which AUR helper are you using? --asroot is no longer a valid option to pacman, so I know at least packer is still using it and should be fixed soon ( Not sure about yaourt or other AUR helpers, but you might wanna try downloading the .tar.gz, extracting it and running makepkg -sic inside the extracted directory (that's what the AUR helper is basically doing anyway).

Rebuilded, implemented features as requested by @bcremer. I checked out pycharm packages and they are also conflict free. I suppose we can implement same feature as well also. Please report if this will cause any problems in future, we can revert to version with conflict set-up anytime.

edke commented on 2012-11-21 09:48

Do you really think that this is a good solution ? We can of course have two installations, stable and eap at the same time. But using it for single user can be something different. Those two packages share same config for single user if in same branch (eg 5.0). But EAP can store new settings in config files for new features. Running on these settings with stable build can lead to undesired conditions which is at the first place point why you want to run stable build (to not to broke installation).

In current state of development (stable 5.0.4 lives in 5.0 config branch and EAP started in 6.0 and has separate config) this co-existence of eap and stable on same system under single account can work together. But once stable 6.0 will be released and new builds in 6.0 will be released via EAP, then problem can occur.

I'd like to hear from other people currently using these packages, what is their opinion about implementing this.

bcremer commented on 2012-11-20 11:42

I would like to see a conflict free PKGBUILD of phpstorm-eap that can be installed side by side to the regular phpstorm.

This would require minimal changes in your PKGBUILD:
