According to the wiki page you reference, you should use "conflicts" and "provides" for AUR packages - "replaces" is used by pacman when syncing repo packages.

I can probably create "purple-hangouts-git" based on this.

Should I use the "replaces"1 PKGBUILD key?

I don't think there's a way to change the name of this package (it makes sense). I have an updated version of the PKGBUILD, but I'm not sure I want to submit it since I don't use Hangouts anymore. If anyone else wants to step up and make the package, feel free to do so. Otherwise, I'll submit the updated PKGBUILD a week or so.

While updating an intermediate certificate seems to reduce the number of pop-ups a bit they still occur. I had no other choice than compile pidgin with GnuTLS instead of NSS. Since then it feels like nirvana, no more annoying certificate pop-ups, pure bliss. I’ve committed an AUR package for pidgin-gnutls.

Constant certificate pop-ups were such a nuisance that made me whip up this PKGBUILD. Unfortunately, I haven't found a mechanism to made anything like pull request with AUR.

@dreieck That's a missing dependency. It should be fixed now, thanks!

@tomek2102 I think you should report this to the actual developer, my knowledge of the code of the plugin is... nonexistent

New messages are not arriving to pidgin. Sending is working correctly.
