I modernized the build, switched to the latest commit, and added a patch to suppress warnings.

If this is still needed, please kindly modernize the build (PEP 517 installation), and maybe add some of the untagged but committed enhancement patches.
Otherwise this EOL and unused module, last released to PyPI in 2013, can be deleted.
