Apparently there is some confusion around where this package is currently being built/maintained. The gentleman Alex Scheel that is the current maintainer reached out to let me know that this package is likely to be abandoned by the Dogtag team.

Hopefully I do not cause any issue by sharing what I was told: ...we (Dogtag PKI) are probably going to remove our dependency on it and let the package be orphaned, upstream and downstream. We're mostly a Java stack, where JSS -- https://github.com/dogtagpki/jss/ -- is our preferred NSS binding package. The little bit we use python-nss for would easily be replaced by OpenSSL-backed python-cryptography instead.

If you can use Java, that'd probably be what I would do.

so, that being considered, perhaps the maintainers of the freeipa components can remove this package as a dependency? That's how I even ended up here - simply trying to get freeipa-client installed.

Just an FYI - submitted upstream bug 1933360 due to this package failing to build via either the arch build process or via even a "pip install" (as both use the same sources).

Oddly enough my attempts to build an older version of the package all get the same error...

Looks like it is broken upstream, although FreeBSD may have suggested a fix:

EDIT: The FreeBSD patch does allow this to build. See https://reviews.freebsd.org/source/ports/change/branches/2020Q4/security/py-python-nss/files/patch-src_py__nss.h;552573

I get the error "conflicting types for RSAPublicKey" on building that package. Can someone give me a hint on how to fix that?

I was not able to download from the ftp source. But I changed it to https and it worked. See https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/security/python-nss/releases/PYNSS_RELEASE_1_0_0beta1/src/ I also used sha512sums = 1ee1a860ca79abc8fc26139e09a780758d2ce921afbf490b0672635d06b7301e68564e2c0d587c2dd040117619449c794e3221fad16a505760c003491f55c7b0
