I personnaly always got weird curl error (even firefox !) when attempting to download or go to a pypi page, with the old (pypi.python...) or the new (pypi.org / files.pythonhosted.org) domain. Any idea why curl/firefox fails only with their SSL config ?

curl: (35) Unknown SSL protocol error in connection to files.pythonhosted.org:443

Anyway. I pushed a new released with the new url scheme, thus it should work for people without the weird curl problems.

The download failures are related to a major rewrite of PyPI called warehouse. There is a new URL format for predictable download URLs.

https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/source/<first letter of name>/<name>/<name>-<version>.tar.gz

So for your PKGBUILD, try this.

-source=("https://pypi.python.org/packages/source/t/${_pkgname}/${_pkgname}-$pkgver.tar.gz")
+source=("https://files.pythonhosted.org/packages/source/${_pkgname:0:1}/${_pkgname}/${_pkgname}-${pkgver}.tar.gz")

OK I did it! :)

Short and simple:

1. download manually tzlocal-1.3.tar.gz

2. modified in PKGBUILD path to saved file:

source=("/home/USER/FOLDER//tzlocal-1.3.tar.gz")

should work

pypi-cli ?

slav commented on 2016-12-16 20:45

Thank you for answer. Can you precise about which actually package you talk about? Unfortunately can't find it pypi in AUR.

milouse commented on 2016-12-16 14:01

It's not really a package problem. I have the same problem with pypi, for any pypi-related package I install on one of my machine. Yes, you read it : I've 3 different (but up-to-date) archlinux machine and only one fail to download tgz from pypi. I never take the time to understand why.

Thus the better way for you to have it working is to download separately the pypi tgz from pypi with firefox or any other webbrowser, this PKGBUILD, and run yourself the makepkg command.

If someone has an idea about this pypi fail, do not hesitate to share it !

seems that missing package to download?

curl: (22) The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found
==> ERROR: Failure while downloading https://pypi.python.org/packages/source/t/tzlocal/tzlocal-1.3.tar.gz
Aborting...
The build failed.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, and for modifying the license field appropriately. I'm surprised CC0 isn't in /usr/share/licenses.
