@swordfeng Disregard. I determined I could source /usr/lib/qaac/qaac64.exe into foobar2000 and everything works. Thanks again for the help.

@phonemic Maybe worth giving mid3cp a try from the python-mutagen package. I never used it before but it seems can do the job.

@swordfeng Thanks for the quick reply. I can skip foobar2000, and do something like "flac -dc [in.flac] | qaac -V 109 - -o [out.m4a]"
However, tags and album art are lost in the process. Is there another method that retains?

@phonemic You may get one from https://github.com/xiph/flac/releases. Alternatively, the better way is probably to ship a winelib to forward the APIs to libFLAC.so, the Linux native counterpart of libFLAC.dll.
I just did not bother to pack this into the package because it's not mandatory for encoding/decoding AAC/ALAC. Most users and software on Linux can already transcode FLAC with flac or ffmepg.

@swordfeng Apologies if this is documented somewhere. Where can libFLAC.dll be sourced from? I’m trying to get foobar2000 and qaac to work together.

@milaxnuts I have no experience with bwrap either. And for most people it’s probably just an overkill. Correct me if I’m wrong, but there are virtualized environments that do not support bwrap as well.
Qaac binary itself is open sourced but Apple’s encoder is closed source. However, I will be surprised if Apple is doing anything sketchy inside an audio encoder..

since qaac is 99% closed source, i suggest to run it in a sandbox.
for example, im using bubblewrap:
https://github.com/milahu/nur-packages/raw/master/pkgs/applications/audio/qaac/bwrap.nix
to make wine work in bubblewrap, i had to set WINEDLLPATH
to fix the error: wine: could not load ntdll.so
https://github.com/milahu/nur-packages/raw/master/pkgs/applications/audio/qaac/unwrapped.nix
i have no experience with bubblewrap, so i dont know how secure this is
